01 / THE STORY
A SOUND THAT CHANGED THE WORLD.
His breakthrough came in the late 1980s with iconic tracks including Promised Land and I Try. These records became international anthems, combining soulful vocals, uplifting melodies and the unmistakable rhythm of Chicago's underground movement. Promised Land was later featured in the video game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas on the SF-UR house music radio station, introducing Joe Smooth's music to millions of listeners around the world.
Beyond his production work, Joe Smooth has established himself as a respected DJ, producer, remixer and music entrepreneur. He has founded and worked with record labels, collaborated with influential artists and helped carry the spirit of Chicago house to dance floors across generations. His work reflects the enduring power of house music to connect people through rhythm, movement and shared experience.
Joe Smooth continues to perform, create and release music while preserving the legacy of the Chicago sound and contributing to its next chapter. From classic anthems to new productions, his artistry remains rooted in one powerful idea: house music is the music of our lives.
